Big Sister is Watching You!

No compliance with British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA)'s new demands on promoting diversity means no film or TV awards. An Orwellian measure indeed! A typical totalitarian tactic is to profess to favour freedom while restricting freedom. The Equal Opportunities Commission was set up to promote women's work opportunities. (Men of course lose out; just look at the present composition of the Houses of Parliament.) The EOC devoted much time and public expense to defeating the Conservatives' 1979 election manifesto policy to stop foreign men using marriage to live in the UK. But on 7 July 1983 (not quite 1984!) the House of Lords determined immigration control was not covered by the 1975 Sex Discrimination Act. Therefore the EOC acted illegally and spent public money illegally. As a result, at least 300,000 men are living in these islands because it was FORCED. Please see this blog of 13 August "An Abnormal British Muddle..." Likewise, curtailing artistic freedom has been FORCED. Foreign husbands are, of course, beneficiaries of BAFTA's policy.

Plaques offensive to ethnic minorities are being removed by the University of London. The removal of Churchill's unflattering statue in Parliament Square is long overdue. A few years ago a female presenter on BBC TV's excellent "Countryfile" was sacked. The producer had wanted a change. She went to court and was awarded a large sum. Recently a comedian (known for his lack of height!) was sacked from the equally excellent BBC Radio 4 "The Now Show" for the sole purpose of promoting diversity. If the "height challenged" comedian had gone to court he would doubtless have been told by the judge he was being "frivolous". My claim about not being allowed to live in Hong Kong was dismissed as "frivolous". Please see this blog of 2013 "Sauce for the Gander", my Comments at the end.

In 1970, because too many foreign students were taking British university places, universities increased the fees for foreign students. This was strongly opposed for being "discrimination". Now, to increase their funds, universities actively recruit foreign students. They claim this is to promote diversity!

Shakespeare has plenty of interesting & demanding female roles. So there is no need for women to take men's roles. Yet that is just what is happening. Glenda Jackson is currently at London's Old Vic taking the part of King Lear in the play of that name. This of course deprives a man from taking the role. If there are to be punitive sanctions shouldn't they apply to that?

A TV production of "Richard II" a few years ago had a black man playing the Duke of York. Surely to have deliberately chosen him was against the law? Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Commons deliberately chose a black woman to lead the House in its prayers. How come that wasn't deemed to be against the law?
